چکیده

Determination of hydrological properties the aquifer is fundamental importance in hydrogeological and geotechnical studies. An attempt has been made to refine hydraulic conductivity values computed from pumping test by utilizing laboratory. This study uses laboratory rock samples, data conjunction with empirical equations, vertical electric sounding (VES) determine Lower Bari Doab (LBD) Indus Basin Pakistan. The utilized dataset comprises results (Kpump) 17 water wells, (Klab) different grain size subsurface lithologies, 50 VES stations. To this end, investigated area divided into polygons using Thiessen technique, equal distribution/weight conductivities assigned (one polygon around each well where conducted). true resistivity ranging 20–90 ohm-m along an average thickness for polygon. A novel approach developed estimate combining which used compute other properties. calculated conductivity, transmissivity, tortuosity range 4.4 85.6 m/day, 674 8986 m2/day, 13 20, respectively. porosity ranges 32 45% formation factor fall 4 12. Higher were encountered southern portion near junction rivers, it increases increase porosity. having T > 5700 m2/day K 40 yields a large quantity whereas < 1100 m/day are combatively low yield aquifer. method show that geological material, as depicted resistivity, composed layers sand, clay, silt mixed gravel/sand. improves understanding will help development management groundwater resources including prediction future behavior

Optimum Strategies of Groundwater Pumping Regime under Scavanger Tubewells in Lower Indus Basin, Sindh, Pakistan

In general Pakistan is an agricultural country, most of its area including lower Indus basin (LIB) lies in arid and semi-arid zones, where irrigation by canal water and groundwater is only option. Due to continuous seepage from canal irrigation network and infiltration from irrigated lands; without adequate provision of natural and artificial drainage and its appropriate outlet, water-logging a...

Groundwater management for Lower Indus Basin

The present study aims to find out an optimum policy for pumping out the optimized volume of groundwater obtained from the authors' earlier Two Level Optimization Model [N.K. Garg, A. Ali, 1998. Two level optimization model for Lower Indus Basin. Agric. Water Manage. 36, 1±21] for the Dadu Canal Command of the Lower Indus Basin. It is shown that the tubewells in this canal command may be operat...
